Ogden Museum of Southern Art at the University of New Orleans is pleased to offer an insider’s look at the famed New Orleans jazz club and the Jaffe family that made this institution endure for the past 50 years. After opening its doors in 1961, the hall became a sanctuary to protect and honor the New Orleans Jazz style, and today they are still going strong, offering live New Orleans Jazz every night of the week. The exhibition will showcase the music and musicians of Preservation Hall, as well as the art that inspired it. Photographs, paintings, musical instruments and other ephemera (records, business cards), along with video and audio recordings will be on view, commemorating the brilliance of the hall’s past. Works by artists Noel Rockmore, Lee Friedlander, Barry Kiser, Sister Gertrude Morgan, Shannon Brinkman and Erika Goldring, among others, will be included.
